Magic Mushroom Rewire Your Brain–For The Better

Psychedelic mushrooms got their bad rap during the war on drugs, but before Nixon’s time, they were used as medicine, and a means to connect with the divine. Unsurprisingly, as people are turning away from mass-produced, addictive pharmaceutical drugs, they have embarked on a journey to find a more natural alternative. With more research being done on how this naturally growing fungus can benefit the brain, people are jumping on the chance to battle different ailments through psychedelic treatment. What they have found so far could be life-changing for people suffering from depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

    What Makes a Mushroom Magic?

There are millions, yes millions, of different types of mushrooms in the world, many being edible, medicinal, and some psychedelic. Psychedelic mushrooms create sensations of euphoria and altered perception with the help of a special ingredient, psilocybin, which turns into the active psilocin in the body. This creates what feels like a huge serotonin boost, changing how the central nervous system works. This family of funky fungi works similarly to other psychedelics by activating the 5-HT2A receptor, which is also known more simply as the serotonin receptor, which does more than produce feelings of joy. This receptor has many pathways, specifically in the prefrontal cortex, which is essential for learning, cognitive function, and behaviour.

    That Funky Feeling

So, you’ve drank a steaming hot cup of mushroom tea or just downed some slightly gross dried mushroom caps; what now? Once you nibble on these mind-altering little fungi, there’s no going back, and the trip can last anywhere from 3-6 hours. Everyone is affected differently depending on the dose, where you are, and who you’re with. If you’ve taken enough, after around 30 minutes, the hallucinogenic properties start kicking in, and perceptions get wild. Colours, sounds, and objects become distorted, and some people hear sounds or see music. On a good trip, your body feels light, and it can feel like you’re having a magical experience communing with higher spiritual powers.

    Rewiring the Brain

If you’re stuck in a rut and need to find a way out of old habits, then rewiring the brain may not be as complicated as you think. Suppose you’re just suffering from the cognitive decay of set routines. In that case, things like taking new routes to work, staying active, and daily meditation could rewire the brain enough to pull you from your rut, but for people suffering from PTSD, depression or chronic pain, this might not be enough. When you take the same route to work every day, it can start to feel like you’re on auto-pilot, not even remembering how you got to your final destination. Finding new roads to get there or shaking up your routine will leave you more present and create new connections for overall brain health. On the other hand, if your car keeps breaking down and you don’t have a way to get across the city anyways, psychedelics act like a mechanic. Now that you’re back on the road and your car starts every time, you can begin your adventure and reach where you need to be.

    How Does It Work?

Psilocybin, the hallucinogenic ingredient in magic mushrooms, has been used medicinally throughout human history, but they’re just finally figuring out why that is. New studies show that one big trip rewires the brain by building new connections in the brain. Neurons are responsible for sharing information through different parts of the brain and nervous system using chemical signals and electrical impulses. Psilocybin works by altering the spines on the finger-like dendrites that branch out from the neuron cell (picture a snowflake with a couple of longer tails). The active ingredient in magic mushrooms increases the size of these essential spines by around 10%, making it easier to strengthen and build new connections. Studies show that new connections form within a day after ingesting magic mushrooms, lasting for months or even years. These new connections are essential to rewiring the brain, known as neuroplasticity, which allows the brain to learn and adapt.

Can I Skip the Trip and Microdose?

Microdosing has become a more mainstream way to keep the creative juices flowing by taking a small number of mushrooms multiple days a week. By keeping the dose tiny, you can harness many of the benefits without feeling the stronger effects of the hallucinogenic mushroom. Many of the most creative minds of our time swear by psychedelics as a way to open their minds and boost creativity, especially in the competitive tech field. While I am a massive advocate of this daily practice and firmly believe it is beneficial for mental and physical health, you won’t see the same results as taking one large dose. In order for the brain to rewire, it needs a big kickstart.

    Lasting Change

As a person’s age goes up, plasticity typically goes down. This especially includes personality traits of openness like imagination, abstract thinking, and general broad-mindedness. This could be why people become more stuck in mundane routines and less accepting of change as they age. Mushrooms are derailing the idea that personality can’t change after 30, and needless to say that a world of people brimming with acceptance and creativity is one I prefer to live in. If your out-of-date uncle had one fantastic trip on mushrooms, I can guarantee there would be fewer heated discussions around the holidays. While some people choose to include psychedelics into their routine, many others find that just once is enough to pull them out of the mental rut they were in and change their thinking way into the future.

  • Waking and Baking: How to Start Your Day Off Right with Cannabis

Waking and Baking: How to Start Your Day Off Right with Cannabis

Everyone has their own morning rituals that help them start the day off right. For many, a cup of coffee is the go-to way to energize and prepare for the hours ahead. But what if you could combine your favourite wake-up beverage with the added boost of cannabis? This article explores the concept of “waking and baking” and why it might be the best way to start your day!

    What is Waking and Baking

Assuming you’re referring to the term “waking and baking,” it’s a slang expression for smoking cannabis first thing in the morning. For some people, it’s a way to start their day off with a clear head. Others find that it helps them ease into their day and get things done. I’ve got a simple checklist here to make sure you get the most out of your day. First, make sure you’re using a strain of cannabis that won’t make you too tired or couch-locked. Second, start with a small amount and increase as needed. Lastly, be prepared for your day – have breakfast ready, set out your clothes, etc.

    Benefits of Waking and Baking

There are many benefits to starting your day off with cannabis. For one, it can help you start your day off right by providing you with an uplifting and energizing high that will keep you going. Additionally, cannabis can help improve your mood, increase creativity, and promote relaxation. And last but not least, waking and baking with cannabis can also help alleviate pain and other medical symptoms.

Preparing for a Wake and Bake Session

Waking up and enjoying a fresh cup of coffee is a great way to start your day. But what if you could add cannabis to the mix and create an even better morning routine? That’s what we call a wake-and-bake session!

Here are a few things you’ll need to do to get ready for your wake-and-bake session:

    1. Wake up earlier than usual. This will give you plenty of time to enjoy your weed without feeling rushed.
    2. Choose your strain. Indica strains are best for relaxation, while sativas are more energizing. Find one that suits your mood for the day.
    3. Grind your weed. This will help it burn evenly when you smoke it later on.
    4. Get everything else ready. Ensure you have all the necessary supplies, including rolling papers, lighters, and ashtrays.
    5. Sit back, relax, and enjoy! Once you’ve got everything ready, it’s time to sit back and enjoy your wake-and-bake session. Be sure to take it slow at first, so you don’t get too high too fast.

What Type of Cannabis Should I Use?

When it comes to using cannabis, there are many different options to choose from. Depending on your needs, you may want to use another type of cannabis. Here are some of the most popular types of cannabis and what they are typically used for:

    • Indica: This type of cannabis is known for its relaxing effects. If you want to wind down after a long day or ease into sleep, indica is a good option.
    • Sativa: Unlike indica, sativa is known for its energizing and uplifting effects. If you want a mental boost or need help getting through a task, sativa is a good choice.
    • Hybrid: As the name suggests, hybrid strains contain elements of both indica and sativa. This makes them more versatile and can be helpful for people who want the best of both worlds.
    • CBD: CBD-dominant strains are high in CBD (cannabidiol), which has numerous potential health benefits but doesn’t produce the psychoactive effects associated with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). If you’re looking for the therapeutic benefits of cannabis without the high, CBD-dominant strains are a good option.

Tips for Making The Best Out of Your Wake and Bake Session

Assuming you’re of legal age and have access to quality cannabis, you can do a few things to make the most out of your wake-and-bake session.

First and foremost, start with a clean pipe, bong, or joint. The last thing you want is leftover residue from the night before. If you don’t have time to clean it properly, at least give it a quick rinse.

Next, take a moment to grind your weed. This will help it burn more evenly and produce better results. If you’re using a bong or pipe, packed too tightly will result in a harsh smoke, while packing it too loosely will cause it to burn too quickly. Find that happy medium.

Now it’s time to actually light up and enjoy! Take slow, deep breaths and savour the flavour and effects of the weed. Don’t try to smoke it all at once – pace yourself and enjoy the experience!

Alternatives To Lighting Up in the Morning

If you’re not a morning person or don’t enjoy smoking cannabis, there are plenty of other ways to consume it. Here are some alternative methods for consuming cannabis in the morning:

    1. Edibles: Edibles are an excellent option for those who don’t want to smoke or vape cannabis. You can find edibles in various forms, such as gummies, cookies, and brownies. Just be sure to start with a low dose and wait at least an hour before consuming more, as the effects can take a while to kick in.
    2. Oils and tinctures: Oils and tinctures are another non-smoking option. They’re typically taken under the tongue, which allows them to be absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. Start with a low dose and increase gradually as needed.
    3. Topical products: Topicals, like lotions and salves, are applied directly to the skin. They’re a good option for those who want localized relief without any psychoactive effects.
    4. Capsules: Capsules are similar to edibles in that they’re an easy way to take cannabis without smoking it. However, capsules can take longer to kick in (up to 2 hours), so they’re not ideal if you need immediate relief.

Waking and baking is a great way to start your day off right. It can help you relax, clear your mind, and prepare for the day ahead. With the right cannabis strains and helpful tips, anyone can enjoy the benefits of waking and baking. Whether it’s adding some CBD oil to your morning coffee or having an infused breakfast with friends, there are plenty of ways to make mornings more enjoyable when you add some cannabis into the mix. So give it a try – you may just find that starting your morning with some cannabis is exactly what you need!

  • Why Does Cannabis Make Food Taste Better?

Exploring the Connection Between Food and Cannabis

Have you ever wondered why cannabis seems to have a magical ability to make food taste better? If so, then you’re certainly not alone. In this blog post, we’ll be exploring the connection between cannabis and food and discussing why cannabis can have such a profound effect on our palate. Even better, how to make cannabis an addition to meals while keeping them delicious. So grab a snack and join us as we dive into the fascinating world of cannabis-enhanced cuisine!

The Connection Between Cannabis and Food

Cannabis and food have been linked together for centuries. The first recorded instance of cannabis being used as a food ingredient was in ancient China, where it was used to make tea. Cannabis was also used as a food ingredient in ancient India, where it was used to make a type of curry. More recently, cannabis has been used as an ingredient in various food items such as brownies, cookies, and cakes.

There are many theories as to why cannabis makes food taste better. One theory is that the THC in cannabis interacts with the CB1 receptors in the brain, which are responsible for taste and smell. THC binds to these receptors and causes them to become more sensitive, increasing flavour perception. Another theory is that cannabis increases blood flow to the digestive tract, which enhances flavour perception

Whatever the reason may be, there is no denying that cannabis does indeed make food taste better. If you haven’t experienced it yourself, then you’re missing out!

How Does Cannabis Affect our Sense of Taste?

Cannabis has been shown to affect our sense of taste in several ways. For one, it can increase our sensitivity to certain tastes and flavours. This is why many people who use cannabis report that food tastes better when they are high. Additionally, cannabis can also change how we perceive taste. This is because THC, the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis, binds to receptors in the brain that are responsible for processing flavours. As a result, THC can alter our sense of taste and make food seem sweeter, saltier, or more savoury than it actually is. Additionally, because cannabis affects how we process information from our senses, it can also make food seem more intense in flavour. This is why some people report that everything tastes better when they are high on cannabis.

Different Strains of Cannabis and Their Effects on Food

Different strains of cannabis have different effects on food. Some strains make food taste better, while others make it taste worse. The effects of cannabis on food vary depending on the strain, the amount of THC in the strain, and the person’s individual response to THC.

THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. It is responsible for the “high” that people feel when they consume cannabis. THC binds to receptors in the brain and alters perception, mood, and cognition. THC also stimulates appetite by binding to receptors in the hypothalamus, which is why people who consume cannabis often experience an increase in hunger (known as “the munchies”).

Different strains of cannabis can have different ratios of THC to CBD. THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, while CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that has medicinal properties. Strains with a higher ratio of THC to CBD will generally have more psychoactive effects, while those with a higher ratio of CBD to THC will tend to be more medicinal.

The effects of cannabis on food also depend on the person’s individual response to THC. Some people find that cannabis makes food taste better, while others find that it makes food taste worse. There is no right or wrong answer here – it all comes down to personal preference. If you’re curious about how different strains of cannabis will affect your own experience of food, we recommend trying out a few different strains and seeing what works best for you!

The Impact of Terpenes on Taste Perception

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds found in cannabis that give the plant its distinctive smell. They also play a role in taste perception. When you consume cannabis, the terpenes interact with your taste buds and affect how you perceive the flavour of food.

There are many different types of terpenes, each with its own unique flavour profile. Some common examples include myrcene (earthy), limonene ( citrusy), and pinene (piney). These flavours can enhance the taste of food, making it more pleasant to eat. In addition, terpenes can also affect your appetite. Certain terpenes can increase your appetite, while others can suppress it.

The impact of terpenes on taste perception is not fully understood. However, research suggests that they do play a role in enhancing flavour and affecting appetite. If you’re looking to improve your cannabis-eating experience, paying attention to the type of terpene present in your strain may be helpful.

Exploring the Health Benefits of Eating Cannabis-Infused Foods

When it comes to cannabis, there are many different ways to consume it. Smoking and vaping are the most common methods, but eating cannabis-infused foods is becoming increasingly popular. And for good reason! Eating cannabis has a number of health benefits that you may not be aware of.

For starters, consuming cannabis-infused foods can help to increase your appetite. This is perfect for those who are struggling with conditions like cancer or AIDS that often lead to a loss of appetite. Cannabis can also help to relieve pain and inflammation, making it a great natural remedy for conditions like arthritis or Crohn’s disease.

Additionally, eating cannabis-infused foods can also provide you with some much-needed relief from anxiety and stress. If you’re someone who suffers from panic attacks or general anxiety, consuming cannabis in this way can help to calm your nerves and ease your mind. And last but not least, eating cannabis-infused foods can help improve your sleep quality. If you’re someone who has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, consuming cannabis before bedtime may just do the trick!

There is obviously a strong connection between cannabis and food. The key to unlocking the potential of this relationship lies in understanding why cannabis makes food taste better and how we can use it to enhance our culinary experience. From flavour pairings to marijuana-infused edibles, there are many ways that you can explore the connection between cannabis and food. With some experimentation, you will be able to find new dishes that you never thought possible with marijuana

Have you found foods taste better when you’ve used cannabis beforehand? Are there certain recipes and tastes you feel work better afterwards? Perhaps some you didn’t like as much afterwards? Please tell us in the comments below!

  • How Mary Jane Changed the History of Medical Marijuana

How Mary Jane Changed the History of Medical Marijuana

Mary Jane Rathbun is the most historic woman in cannabis history and is single-handedly responsible for medicinal weed becoming legalized. Although it’s just a coincidence that she shares the nickname of her favourite green herb, it’s definitely fitting. Most fondly remembered as Brownie Mary, she created waves with her non-compliance to overly strict marijuana laws during her lifetime.

The Origin Story of A Community Legend

It’s extremely hard to find any information on the early life of this courageous woman and a lot of what I did find wasn’t consistent. Everyone agrees that Mary was born into a highly religious family in 1922. Although she was born in Minnesota, she grew up in Chicago, where she was known to be rebellious from a very young age. Mary dropped out of school after hitting a nun who tried to cane her and left home to forge her own path as an activist. She found herself in Wisconsin battling for abortion rights and the union rights of miners. Like many young Americans during World War II, she made her way to the hub of civil disobedience, San Fransisco. This is where she met the man she would marry and start a family with, although it didn’t last very long, and they were soon divorced. As a single mother, her job waitressing at IHOP barely covered her bills, so she started selling pot brownies to make ends meet. Sadly, her only daughter died in a car crash in the 1970s, at only 22, which many of her friends think led to Mary’s dedication to charity work.

    Her First Arrest

Mary Rathbun began selling her “magically delicious” brownies all over neighbourhood bulletin boards and quickly became well known throughout the city’s gay Castro District. In the early 80s, she was making up to 600 brownies a day and selling them either from her home, a basket on the streets, or the Big Top pot supermarket. Unfortunately, this widespread popularity attracted the attention of local police, who sent an undercover detective, posing as a customer, to her apartment. This feisty 57-year-old was arrested in her flower-print apron on January 14, 1981, when they confiscated almost 20 pounds of marijuana. The arrest made national headlines, but the judge liked her, and instead of sending this grandmotherly woman to jail, he sentenced her to 500 hours of community service. Most of her volunteer hours were spent on The Shanti Project, a support group for people living with life-threatening illnesses, which became a huge turning point in her life.

    The AIDS pandemic

In 1982, the mysterious wasting disease that was running rampant through the community was finally named Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Politicians widely ignored it as it mainly targeted gay communities, and many lost most of their friends as the death toll continued to rise. Mary was a beacon of light to the patients at the San Fransisco General Hospital, where she donated her time and her cannabis-laced baking. She noticed that her brownies helped ease the discomfort of cancer and AIDS patients while inducing hunger, significantly improving their quality of life. Brownie Mary stopped seeing her magical brownies as a way to make extra money and began using her small social security checks to buy baking supplies. She started to receive mysterious packages on her doorstep containing enough weed to continue her social welfare project. On December 1982, she was on her way to the hospital with her famous brownies when she was unlucky enough to run into the same officer that had arrested her the year before. Although she was charged with multiple counts of possession and violation of probation, the district attorney dropped the charges. By the mid- ‘80s, Mary was baking more than 1600 brownies a month for her “kids,” In 1986, she was awarded the prestigious “volunteer of the year” award.

The Third Arrest and Big Political Change

In the early ‘90s, Mary came into her own as a political activist and contributed to Proposition P passing in 1991. This bill allowed physicians to prescribe medical marijuana to suffering patients without worrying that there would be legal consequences. Mary was no longer viewed as a rule breaker but as an aids activist who brought about change and well-being for people who received terrible diagnoses.

“I know from smoking pot for over 30 years that this is a medicine that works. It works for wasting syndrome. The kids have no appetite, but when they eat a brownie, they get out of bed and make themselves some food. And for chemotherapy, they eat half a brownie before a session, and when they get out, they eat the other half. It eases the pain. That’s what I’m here to do.” -Brownie Mary in an interview with Associated Press, 1992

All of Mary’s fame did not stop her from getting arrested again in July 1992, but it did help her avoid any of the possession charges she faced. Soon after, the San Fransisco Board of Supervisors declared August 25th “Brownie Mary Day .”In 1996 Prop 215 passed, and less than two years later, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Nevada followed suit and legalized medical marijuana. Luckily Mary got to see all of this unfold, but her health had begun to deteriorate quickly. She now struggled with osteoarthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and colon cancer. The only way Ruthbun could get around and keep fighting for what she believed in was cannabis which she had fought so hard to legalize. She stayed strong and was the grand marshal of the 1997 Pride Parade in San Fran.

The End of Brownie Mary But Not Her Legacy

On April 10, 1999, Mary Jane Rathbun died of a heart attack. She was 77 and had lived a beautiful life dedicated to helping those in need. On April 17th, a crowd of around 300 people attended a candlelight vigil in her honour. The district attorney that had dropped the charges against her, Terrence Hallinan, made a moving speech about how Mary was a hero and would one day be remembered as the Florence Nightingale of the medical marijuana movement. And so she is fondly remembered today for all the good she did for marginalized communities. Unfortunately, her brownie recipe is gone, as she never shared it with anyone. Although she always joked that she would sell it to Betty Crocker one day, she never made it that far. RIP, Brownie Mary. We love you.

Did you know that it was Brownie Mary and her AIDS activism, and not the hippy movement, that led to medical marijuana becoming more accessible? Tell us about how medical marijuana has helped you in the comments.

  • 8 Benefits of CBD for Seniors

8 Benefits of CBD for Seniors

CBD, also known as the bliss molecule, is becoming more mainstream as more is becoming known about its many benefits. It is a natural medication used throughout human history to treat various ailments and disorders. It can be challenging to come to terms with the hardships of navigating through the passages of time, but CBD could make it easier. Keep reading to discover why this natural drug might be just the thing to take the edge off the effects aging has on your body and mind.

    What is CBD

CBD is one of the main compounds found in the cannabis plant alongside its famous counterpart, THC, and around 120 lesser-known ones. CBD is non-psychoactive and won’t create the feeling of being “high” but will create a sense of calm and well-being. It’s nonaddictive and legal in most places.

The Benefits of CBD for an Aging Population

Although I am specifically targeting seniors and the benefits they may be aiming to address, CBD benefits every one of any age demographic.

    1. Alleviates Pain

CBD oil is proven effective at fighting pain, and some studies show that it can reduce pain 30% more than traditional prescription medications or medical marijuana treatment of THC alone. As if that wasn’t enough of a reason to incorporate CBD, it also has fewer side effects and won’t lead to addiction. With 75% of seniors coping with chronic pain, arthritis and other inflammatory and pain-related illnesses, this could be a game-changer. This miracle drug works by reducing inflammation which is responsible for most pain. If you are suffering from joint pain, arthritis, or Multiple Sclerosis, then CBD could drastically improve your quality of life.

    1. Balances the Effects of Mood Disorders

As we get older, mood swings can become more frequent and intense. This is natural but can also be caused by significant changes such as declining health, loss, and grief. If these mood swings are left unchecked, they can become more estranged from society and the people they love, which increases the risk of mental illness. CBD comes to the rescue by interacting with the brain receptors involved in mood regulation, helping reduce stress, calm the mind, and improve cognitive functions. All of these positively impact mood.

    1. Improves Quality of Sleep

Insomnia is common in North America, but even more so with the older generation. Sleep is essential for regeneration and removing harmful toxins that build up throughout the day, regardless of age. We need 7-9 hours a night, more if you’re a woman, or our bodies suffer the harmful, long-term consequences. As you age, the worsening quality of sleep is caused by changes in sleep patterns and leads many to turn to dangerous sleep medications. While these prescription drugs are effective, they are harmful and can lead to dependence, addiction, and worse sleep concerns as time goes on.

    1. Promotes Bone Health

After 35, osteoporosis starts to kick in, and once strong, bones begin to lose minerals, making them more fragile. Falls happen, but with weakened bones, instead of leaving you with a bruise, it could leave you with fractured bones. According to studies, falls are the number one cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries to the elderly. The weakening of bones is a natural part of aging. Still, CBD can help by reducing inflammation, encouraging cell repair, strengthening bones, and helping to heal faster when a fracture happens.

    1. Prevents Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, affecting more than 80 million people, most of whom are over the age of 40. There is currently no cure, but if you take action, this awful disease can be controlled before it leads to vision loss or blindness. Built-up liquid behind the eyes causes pressure, damaging the optic nerves, which is Glaucoma. It’s now believed that cannabis can relieve this pressure on the eyes, and CBD is no different. This natural non-hallucinogen is a better option for people who aren’t interested in getting “high.”

    1. Good For Your Heart

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for seniors, which is heavily attributed to high blood pressure. That is why you always see those blood pressure machines at pharmacies, making it easier to monitor your levels. CBD has shown promise as an alternative treatment for high blood pressure, lowers stress which leads to high blood pressure, and the high levels of antioxidants lower cardiac inflammation. Pairing this cannabinoid with a heart-healthy diet will leave you feeling healthier.

    1. Helps with Neurodegenerative Diseases

The most common neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, erecting millions of people globally. Aging is the primary factor, and one in ten people over 65 will develop at least one of these diseases. These conditions are caused by damage to neurons in the brain, affecting your nervous system and spinal cord. Losing these vital nerve cells leads to declines in motor and cognitive functions, drastically affecting the quality and length of life. CBD can help restore some of these functions while reducing inflammation, which worsens the symptoms of these diseases.

    1. Youthful and Glowing skin

Everyone wants to stay looking young for as long as possible, and CBD is here to do the job. It combats the adverse effects of free radicals on the skin, feeds your skin the antioxidants and moisture it craves, and can improve elasticity. All these things together make it one of the most effective skincare products to leave your skin as healthy and youthful as possible. Best Ways to incorporate it into your daily routine

There is no right or wrong way, but there are better ways to utilize CBD, depending on what you intend to treat with it. For skincare and topical treatments, it’s best to find a cream or oil that focuses on your problem area. For many other uses, it’s best to ingest it in whatever form you prefer so that it can travel throughout your body, spreading its benefits wherever you need it. Everyone’s bodies are different, so finding the suitable method and dose for you could take time, but keep going! Your health is worth it.

Your Immune System Is Begging for Nutrients

When you’re feeling tired, stressed, or otherwise unwell, the foods your body is craving might not actually be the foods you need. I know that when I’m sick, I do not want a salad; I want carbs, any kind of bread that I can get my hands on. This is because carbs are loaded with sugars that raise your feel-good dopamine levels. Even though you feel sated and happy, your body is not. Without the proper nutrients, this feeling is fleeting and won’t equip you with the nutrients needed to fight off infections or illnesses. This is where soup comes into play as filling comfort food, and with the right ingredients, soup can feed your body and leave you satiated.

    1. Creamy Butternut Soup

    Ingredients:

    • 1 butternut squash, cubed
    • 2 carrots, peeled and cubed
    • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
    • 1 potato, peeled and cubed
    • 1 jalapeno, sliced and de-seeded
    • 1 tbsp olive oil
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 2 cups vegetable stock
    • 2 tablespoons of cannabis butter or your preferred portion of cannabis-infused oil
    • 1 stalk of celery, sliced
    • 2 leaves of fresh sage, chopped
    • 4 oz of cream cheese (can substitute for vegan cream cheese)
    • 1 cup of whole milk (or alternative milk that is heavy enough, like oat or full-fat coconut milk.)

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 425 and put your butternut squash, jalapeños, garlic, potatoes, salt, pepper, and olive oil in an oven-safe pan.
    2. Let everything bake for about an hour or until soft.
    3. While the vegetables are baking, add the vegetable broth to a saucepan, and add your cannabis butter or oil, sage, and celery.
    4. Simmer for 45 minutes on low heat. Don’t let it come to a boil, or it could ruin your cannabis.
    5. Strain the mixture in your saucepan so that you’re left with a delicious infused broth.
    6. We are now ready to bring all of our ingredients together. Blend the roasted vegetable with broth, cream cheese, and milk. Your soup is ready!

    • 2/3 cup vegetable broth
    • 1 1/2 cups egg noodles
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions:

    1. Start by sautéing the onion and celery in your butter for about 3-5 minutes until the onion is clear.
    2. Add the chicken and vegetable broth to the saucepan and stir well.
    3. After a few minutes, add the noodles, basil, salt, pepper, oregano, carrots, and peas.
    4. Bring everything to a low boil and cook for about 20-30 minutes.
    5. Nearing the end of the cooking is when you want to add your tincture.
    6. Your infused soup is done. Enjoy the labour of your love.
    1. Cannabis Leaf Soup

This might sound strange but this soup is ridiculously easy to make and utilizes not only cannabis-infused oils but nutritious leaves as well. This leafy, green powerhouse will leave you feeling relaxed and nourished.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 tbsp butter
    • 1 tbsp canna-butter or your desired dose of infused tincture or oil
    • 8 grams of fresh cannabis flowers
    • 1 zucchini
    • 2 potatoes
    • 3 cups of chicken or vegetable stock
    • 2 tsp oil
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1/2 cup of milk

    Instructions:

    1. Sauté your fresh cannabis flower in butter for a couple of minutes on low heat so that it’s easily digestible without losing any of its nutritious benefits.
    2. Add your chosen stock into a pan and boil the zucchini and potato until soft.
    3. When done, add the cannabis and butter as well as the milk and blend.
    4. Once your soup is deliciously creamy, add the oil, salt, and pepper.
    5. You are done, wasn’t that easy?

  • Cure your Cold with Cannabis-Infused Soups

Cure your Cold with Cannabis-Infused Soups

Nothing makes you feel better when you’re feeling under the weather more than a hot cup of soup. Add our favourite medicinal superfood, cannabis, which may be the exact thing you need to help you feel better faster.

Why do we get sicker in the winter?

It may seem like you breeze through the summer without even one hint of a sneeze, and then the second the cold starts to set in so does the endless stream of sicknesses and cases of flu, and you wouldn’t be wrong. There are a few factors that are responsible for this, and part of it may be the fact that you want to hide from the chilly weather with a cup of hot tea and a movie. Being indoors raises infection rates and is the number one reason why different illnesses and viral infections are given free rein to thrive and spread. If you decide to risk leaving the house to battle the cold, you may not be much better off. With temperatures dropping, so do the humidity levels in the air, which can lead to cracked tissue in the respiratory tract and mucus membranes. This makes you much more susceptible to different bacteria and viruses trying to invade your body and take away your health. As if all of this wasn’t enough, you’re probably not drinking as much water as in the hot summer months. Be honest… are you maybe a little bit dehydrated? This negatively impacts your already overworked immune system and can give those pesky viruses an extra seat on your hibernation couch.

    Adding The Secret Ingredient: Cannabis

There are so many ways to add this secret little ingredient, and deciding what kind of effects you would like to see is the first step. Since you’re on the couch or in bed taking a sick day anyways, then maybe getting that buzzy high from THC is what you need, but if you’re not a fan of the feeling, then CBD or raw leaves can do the job as well. There are benefits to each method, so keep reading to see what will work best for you.

    1. The Whole Package: Infusing your soup with a combination of different cannabinoids can not only help you relax and breathe more easily but sets off an entourage effect that can be more effective than any single part of the plant alone. The easy way to achieve this is to buy an oil to add to your dish as very little work is needed. My favourite option for this is boost balanced 1:1 tincture. It has an equal amount of THC to CBD and no taste so you don’t have to worry about pairing the earthy flavour of marijuana. You can find it here. Otherwise, you can use full flower. Just make sure to decarboxylate it first so that you can enjoy the effects. I’ll go into more in detail on how to do this in the next article with recipes.
    2. CBD: This is the best option if you want to harness all of the benefits of this miracle plant without the mind altering-feelings that come along with it. For this one, there are several oils and tinctures that you can choose from. I prefer one with no flavour so that you don’t have to work it into the recipe. I buy Boost brand for this one as well, as they have a pure CBD option that is flavourless and comes in an easy-to-use dropper bottle for easy dosing. You can find that one here.
    3. Full Fresh Flower: If you haven’t read my article on eating raw cannabis, you can read it here! It’s a nutritional powerhouse and one of the world’s most nutrient-dense foods. In the In the western world, it is so easy to get caught up eating fast food or whatever you can have delivered to your door. In the winter, people naturally crave more fatty foods, and according to research, 90% of people don’t eat nearly enough fruits or vegetables. This is where adding some nice, fresh leaves into the mix can help. It won’t get you high, but it will feed your body.

Cannabis Will Help You Feel Better, Faster

No one wants to be sick, but it’s an inevitable part of life, so the best we can ask for is to make the time when you aren’t feeling your best as short and painless as possible. While there is no cure for the common cold, there are ways to make the time a little bit less terrible.

    • Boosts Your Immune System: Cannabis is an amazing source of antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, which can help reduce inflammation throughout the body. This may not be a cure, but it will definitely help soothe the symptoms and strengthen your immune system to help protect you from picking up another virus. Added to something healing like a soothing soup full of nutrients, it can have you feeling up and ready in no time.
    • Helps Fight Pain: One awful side effect of being sick is discomfort and all-over body aches. Cannabis is a well-known, effective treatment for pain. This can really improve your overall well-being and make the difference between being stuck writhing in bed and getting up for some healing movement.
    • Helps You Sleep: With the discomfort that comes along with being sick, it may be hard to fall asleep and stay in a deep slumber. The only thing that can really help you get over your sickness is plenty of sleep, so try a strong Indica strain and get to bed.

If you’re feeling the effects of a cold-weather cold, then stay tuned for the soup recipes I know you are all waiting for. Do you use cannabis to help you beat those winter illnesses? Let us know in the comments!

Cannabis-infused honey is the perfect partnership between two nutritional powerhouses. I am here to share how to make your own cannabis infused honey at home and how to incorporate it as a part of your daily wellness routine. If you want to find out more about the benefits of this golden medicine then check out my last article, The Sweet Benefits of Cannabis-Infused Honey. If you’re here because you already know all about why you need this concoction in your life then keep reading!

    Making Cannabis Honey at Home

Honey lasts forever and adding cannabis to the tincture may make the shelf life shorter but if sealed and stored properly can last for years. Buying it from a trusted retailer is the easiest way but if you want to get creative in the kitchen and whip up a batch with your chosen strain and local honey then this recipe is for you.

    You’ll need these supplies:

    • Canning jar with lid
    • Pot
    • 3.5 grams of chosen cannabis strain
    • 1/2 cup of coconut oil
    • Cheesecloth
    • Strainer
    • Bowl
    • Mixer
    • 11 oz of honey

    Instructions:

    1. Use a grinder or scissors to break cannabis into small bits.
    2. Put the ground cannabis into the canning jar and pour the coconut oil over top.
    3. Close the jar and put it aside.
    4. Fill the pot with water so that when the jar is placed in it, water doesn’t touch the lid.
    5. Bring the water to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer before adding your jar of cannabis and coconut oil. Leave the jar in the water for 2 hours.
    6. Remove the jar from the pot and wait for a couple of minutes while your coconut oil concoction cools a bit.
    7. Line your strainer with the cheesecloth and pour the contents of the jar into the bowl through your lined colander.
    8. Slowly and gently squeeze any excess liquid into the bowl through the cheesecloth.
    9. Take your cannabis-infused coconut oil and place it in the blender with your chosen honey.
    10. Blend until fully mixed and then store in an airtight container.
    11. Store in a cool, dry place and enjoy!

I have Cannabis Honey, Now What?

    1. Make herbal aftershave: Daily run-ins with a razor can leave skin irritated, red, and tight. If this sounds familiar try applying cannabis-infused honey to the affected areas. Wait a few minutes and rinse off with cool water. This will leave your face feeling refreshed, and moisturized.
    2. Get more from your workout: Mix your canna-honey with your water to add that extra boost to your workout. It helps prevent your muscles from getting sore and cramped and can help you reach that next level in your fitness routine.
    3. Cure that cough: As we’re heading into flu season it’s unlikely you’ll be able to avoid all of the illnesses travelling around. When you feel a ticklish throat coming on make this all-natural cough syrup. This recipe is easy and effective, getting you back to yourself in no time. Simply add 1 cup of water, 1/4 cup of fresh ginger, 1/4 cup of marshmallow root, and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon into a pot. Bring to a boil and then simmer until at least half of the water is gone then strain. While it’s still warm mix in lemon juice and your canna-honey. Store in the fridge.
    4. Treat bad hangovers: If you had a glass of wine too many the night before and woke up needing relief to get you through the day then make yourself a hot cup of tea and add the canna-honey. The antioxidants and fructose help neutralize toxins and break down remaining alcohol.
    5. Use canna-honey as a topical antibiotic: Simply put the infused honey directly onto the affected area so it can absorb the cad and reap the antibiotic benefits of the honey.
    6. Make a healing face mask: If you’re like me I am always making different face masks with random ingredients I find around my house. This is the absolute best recipe to hydrate dry skin and transform your complexion into that of a glowing god or goddess. Mix 1 tablespoon of coconut oil with 1 tablespoon of infused honey and apply to the face. Leave on and relax for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
    7. Provides relief for allergy symptoms: Honey is a time-tested remedy for treating allergies and an added kick of cannabis only helps further.
    8. Keep gingivitis at bay: Dab cannabis honey to your gum line daily to help promote mouth health. The honey kills bacteria and the cannabis helps it absorb into the bloodstream.
    9. Cool burning muscles: You might be feeling sore after a tough workout or you may be dehydrated but either way your sweet cannabis creation is the answer. Mix it with coconut water and some mint to stay hydrated and refreshed.
    10. Treat Acid Reflux: If acid reflux is causing you discomfort, find relief with a teaspoon of CBD honey every day.
    11. Say goodbye to menstrual cramps: Dissolve a teaspoon of your infused honey into a glass of warm water to help deal with the monthly cramps and pain. It’s effective because it stimulated fatty acid production which helps even out hectic hormones.
    12. Heal Stomach Ulcers: Instead of relying on pharmaceutical medications try canna-honey first. Eat a tablespoon before ingesting anything else during the day and another before bed. The combination should relieve pain, prevent future ulcers, and heal the ones already there.
    13. Treat Burns: Use cannabis-infused honey on first degree burns to keep them sterile, speed up the healing time, and reduce the accompanying pain. Don’t attempt to treat 2nd or third degree burns this way and see a doctor asap.
    14. Transform acne-prone skin: This might not seem contradictory since I previously stated that this product would moisturize the skin. It does moisturize while targeting the pesky blemishes no one wants to see on their skin. Washing your face with canna-honey will cleanse the skin, normalize healthy skin production without drying out everything else.

This is just a small list of the many medicinal uses of cannabis-infused honey, I’ve only included the ones that would be the most beneficial for daily use. Do you use canna-honey to treat your ailments? Let us know in the comments!

  • The Sweet Benefits of Cannabis Honey

Find Sweet Relief With Cannabis-Infused Honey

Combining cannabis and honey, two natural health powerhouses, isn’t a new idea. People have been making these nutritious infusions for thousands of years across Egypt and Eastern Europe during ritualistic practices. The mere fact that this practice has extended throughout such a large part of human history speaks to its effectiveness. Separately, both honey and cannabis are packed with naturally-occurring chemicals that are beneficial for a variety of ailments so mixing them together for an extra health boost just makes sense. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits of cannabis-infused honey and the earliest known uses of this beneficial concoction.

    Why Combine Honey With Cannabis?

I think the better question would be why not combine these two nutritional powerhouses? Both are brimming with medicinal benefits and ingesting cannabis, rather than smoking can be better for the health of your throat, gums, teeth, and lungs. When used together this herbaceous honey can treat inflammation, relieve pain, heal wounds, treat cancer, as well as a long list of other ailments while tasting incredible.

    Canna-Honey In Ancient Egypt

I wasn’t lying when I said that cannabis-infused honey has been used as a natural remedy for thousands of years. There is a lot of evidence that shows how essential this herb-infused honey was to treat certain ailments in ancient Egypt. The British Museum refers to the Ramesseum Papyri as the most precious find from pharaonic Egypt. It is one of the oldest medical records ever discovered and is from around 1750 BCE, including healing techniques used by earlier generations. This important document includes treatments for everything from volcano-induced injuries to childhood illnesses. It includes cannabis as a cure-all.

From around the same time another scroll, The Ebers Papyri, is also discovered. The name for this famous scroll isn’t from Egypt but is named after the botanist, George Ebers, who discovered it in the 1800s. While not as complete as the Ramesseum Papyri, it still includes over 700 magical formulas across more than 100 pages. Some of the remedies listed are a bit interesting but effective enough that healers were instructed to tell patients that they guaranteed a quick recovery after treatment.

    Formula 821:

-One treatment combines ground cannabis flower and honey. It was placed into the vagina to cool the uterus, which would have felt very hot if inflamed.

-Another treatment is for rashes, burns, and wounds to be applied topically to the affected areas. Simply mix honey, ochre, cannabis, hedjou resin, and ibou plant and apply for quick relief.

A significantly newer scroll from 1300 BCE shows the progression toward cannabis being used as a medicine for just about every ailment. It shows ways to use cannabis as a treatment for eye problems, feminine issues, inflamed skin and extremities, and as a fever treatment.

    The Benefits of Honey

Raw honey is a miracle cure-all and can seemingly be used to treat just about everything. Although all honey is good honey the jar off the shelf of your local market may not be as pure and effective at treating different ailments the same way one from your local farm or beekeeper. Following I’m going to list some of the most sought benefits of this golden, sweet syrup.

    1. Packed full of antioxidants: Honey contains beneficial antioxidants, flavonoids, and phenolic acids. The darker the honey is the more antioxidants it contains so keep your eyes out for that deep, golden hue. Antioxidants help neutralize reactive oxygen species in your body which can lead to cell damage and conditions like premature aging, type 2 diabetes, strokes, heart disease, and certain types of cancers.
    2. Helps the heart: Heart disease affects millions of people globally but the secret to getting your heart health in check could be honey. It’s known to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, regulate your heartbeat, and prevent healthy cells from dying.
    3. Heals Burns and Cuts: Applying honey topically to wounds and burns has been fairly common since its first known usage in ancient Egypt. Researchers believe that this natural remedy is so effective due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Honey is here to help with burns, wounds that may have otherwise become infected, diabetes-related foot ulcers, lesions from herpes, and psoriasis.
    4. Powerful cough suppressant: Put the Buckleys back on the shelf! Studies show that honey is more effective than the usual store-bought medications. Honey coats the throat and reduces cough symptoms, the duration, and can help you get a better night’s sleep so that you can get back to your best self more quickly.

    Benefits of Cannabis

Cannabis, like honey, has an incredibly long list of medicinal benefits so I’ll list some of the most popular uses for this hazy, green plant.

    1. Helps promote longer, and deeper sleep: Cannabis will not only help you fall asleep but also helps normalize breathing patterns which can prevent interruptions to your sleep cycle. Wake up feeling more rested than you have since you were forced into adulthood and all the stress that comes along with it.
    2. Relieves Pain: Weed helps with pain whether it’s chronic or brought about by a recent injury. It does this by activating pathways in the central nervous system which block pain signals from making their way to the brain.
    3. Slows Down Premature aging: Nothing can keep you young forever but cannabis can help out. The antioxidant-rich plant fights stress, and the signs of aging while protecting the skin from harmful UVB rays. Say goodbye to excessive wrinkles and other skin diseases that can ravage your youthful looks.
    4. Acts as an Anti-Convulsant: Studies show that cannabis reduces seizures by at least half. This includes people that were unresponsive to conventional treatments and would otherwise have nowhere else to turn. This green herb has substantially improved the lives of those living with epilepsy.

  • Microdosing, The Secret To Success

    Micro-dosing, The Secret To Success

Silicon Valley is well known as the center of innovation and technology, home to some of the most brilliant, entrepreneurial minds in the world. This Californian tech hub is best known for the creation of Facebook, Twitter, and Apple. Recently, they’ve become well known for something other than technology though: micro-dosing psychedelics. Even big house names like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk have been known to indulge in this mind-altering medicine.

    What Is Microdosing?

Microdosing is when you take a very small dose of any psychedelic drug so that you can harness the benefits without going on a “trip”. This small dose will only be 1-10% of what you would normally take and will not cause hallucinations. There are multiple benefits, including uplifted mood, clarity, and relaxation while offering very little to no side effects. This could be an opportunity to take a step back from addictive modern pharmaceuticals and walk down a more natural path toward healing. It should be noted that you should only take a dose every 3-4 days so as not to build a tolerance to it.

    The Benefits

Taking a large dose of psilocybin can lead to deeper understanding and spirituality if done in a safe, therapeutic environment. A big trip is better suited for a study or retreat where you will have the appropriate support to navigate your mind. In smaller doses, it’s easy to incorporate into your everyday life while still reaping all of the medicinal benefits of this mind-altering, magical fungus.

Enhances Creativity: Micro-dosing psilocybin can bring a whole new perspective into your life. Magic mushrooms affect the brain’s frontal cortex, which is responsible for abstract thinking, thought analysis, and plays an important role in mood and perception. This can give you that extra push to think outside of the box and leads to innovation.

Improves Energy: These little doses of psilocybin should be taken at the beginning of your day as they lead to a higher level of energy. This can help you get more done during the day, maybe even without your second cup of coffee.

Reduces Anxiety: Millions of people globally suffer from anxiety and the pharmaceuticals that are prescribed are hard on the body. Making micro-dosing part of your morning routine will leave you feeling more relaxed and able to take on the day without the negative side effects.

Improves Focus: I do not know anyone that wouldn’t benefit from a little bit more focus throughout their day. Whether you have errands to run or a big deadline to meet, taking a little piece of a mushroom cap may give you the edge to get more done during your day.

Silicon Valley Is Full of Brilliant Minds, So Why Do They Need Psychedelics?

These hard-working, innovative techies aren’t using magic mushrooms recreationally but rather as tools to harness creativity and solve some of their more complex problems. More than 60% of tech workers share that they feel burnt out at work and is one of the biggest reasons they turn to less mainstream psychedelic avenues such as so micro-doing shrooms. This is a completely new way to look at drugs: less of a way to let off steam and more of a way to improve the mind.

“What they don’t teach you in programming school is how to cope with the emotional labour that comes with a tech job in the Valley,” says a Google intern.

He left college brimming with excitement which quickly began to fade with the high demands of the job. When one of his coworkers suggested micro-dosing, he quickly jumped at the opportunity. He immediately felt less anxious and everything seemed to become clearer.

Micro-dosing has also become popular with the aging techies that are earning more and are worried about being replaced by younger, less expensive workers. With this older crowd, it becomes exceedingly important to stay relevant and to keep up with social media trends. Grey hair doesn’t support their young, hot image so appearing younger than your age becomes important in keeping any job.

“Psychedelics give me a new sense of emotional freedom, and a new perspective, over the subsequent days and weeks, I start to integrate it with more practical ideas and things come out of that.” says another young Silicone Valley resident, who would prefer to remain anonymous.

    Transitioning Into Larger Doses

While micro-dosing is a better option for day-to-day treatment as you can’t exactly go through your day hallucinating and out of it, larger doses can help when taken occasionally. A man who would like to remain anonymous due to the legality of this natural psychedelic shares his secret to going on a beneficial trip once a month. He takes around 4 grams of dried mushrooms and claims it is essential to help center and calm his mind.

    Is Micro-Dosing Right for You?

If you’ve been in a rut and you’ve been looking for the key to unlocking a new way of thinking then micro-dosing magic mushrooms may be right for you. Ensuring that you’re in the right headspace is much more important if you plan on taking larger doses of this psychedelic fungus but in tiny doses, it creates space from negative thought patterns and can enhance a positive mood. Psychedelics let the brain lower its defenses which can lead people to experience past trauma if it hasn’t been properly worked through. In general, most people dealing with high-stress environments report being much happier, more creative, and less stressed after micro-dosing. Pure Green Express has what you need to start your micro-dosing journey. Check out their selection of Magic Mushroom products here.

Got Cannabis? The Secret to Mending and Strengthening Bones

Move over milk- cannabis is taking center stage as the secret to stronger bones. New research has revealed this new addition to the ever-growing list of benefits that the cannabis plant can provide. The medicinal qualities of this leafy green plant have been utilized in almost every industry across North America since it was legalized in 2017, showing up in everything from face moisturizers to seizure medication.

    Cannabis Boosts Bone Health

A new study conducted by Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University shows the potential for CBD to not only heal bone fractures but also prevent them from breaking again. Rats with mid-femoral fractures were injected with either a mixture of THC and CBD or CBD isolate. They found that there was a noticeable enhancement during the healing process after 8 weeks.

“We found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue. After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future.”

    -Dr. Yankel Gabet

Everything You Need to Know About CBD

CBD is one of the main compounds found in the cannabis plant alongside its active counterpart, THC. Cannabidiol (CBD), is non-psychotic and while it’s known as the bliss molecule it doesn’t leave the consumer with the feeling of being “high”. It might not leave you feeling hazy but it does regulate mood, reduce pain, and fights feelings of depression and anxiety. There is still much to be discovered about this magical compound but with a renewed interest in research, we do know it has a large number of practical uses.

    • Helps heal fractures and promotes bone health
    • Reduces seizures for people suffering from epilepsy
    • Lowers inflammation
    • Can help people with neurological illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury
    • Can improve skin and hair health
    • Helps people manage symptoms of ADHD

    CBD For Healing Broken Bones

When you break a bone, collagen is built up over the fracture to create a bridge and eventually becomes hardened into new bone. This is where CBD comes in handy with its powerful collagen-producing power. Studies have shown that this is not only effective at speeding up the healing process but also strengthens bones so that they’re less likely to break again in the future. This isn’t a small find for people with weakening bones as researchers say the intervention of cannabis makes bones 35-50% stronger. This is due to the fact that CBD makes collagen tissue stronger with more tightly cross-linked molecules.

    CBD For Strengthening Bones

Degenerative conditions like osteoporosis can be hard to live with as they lead to excessive pain, stiffness, immobility, and inflammation from the loss of bone density. This condition which leads to brittle bones affects 54 million Americans. This is caused by a loss of collagen which makes up our bones and is directly linked to weakness in bones. There are not many effective treatments for this condition and pain medications are often prescribed to help patients get through the day. CBD is the perfect non-addictive treatment that can actually help repair instead of just keeping the pain at bay without treating the root of the problem.

    Pain Relief

If like most people you have experienced a fracture the one thing you may remember is the pain. Many people are given prescription pain medications to handle the waves of discomfort but there are always concerns of addiction and overdose. CBD comes in handy here as it has almost no side effects and is a non-addictive, natural pain suppressant. Taking CBD orally or using some form of pain relief topical spray can help with recovery and reduce pain and stiffness caused by injury.

    Topical Products to Fight Pain

There are many alternatives to traditional, addictive medications. Cannabis topicals can be applied to the affected area and provide significant, fast relief.

    • Mary+Wanda CBD Pain Relief Cream: This soothing cream has 120 mg of CBD and is here to provide relief to those sore bones and muscles. It’s an all-natural option made with Canadian plants in Vancouver.
    • Mermaid for You Heaven Roller: This roll-on product is designed to help relieve stress and pain. It contains 300mg per roller. They suggest applying it either directly to the affected area or behind the ears, on the temples, or on the wrists. These are thinner areas of skin that will help the feeling of herbal relief reach the bloodstream more quickly.
    • CBD Transdermal Patch: Reap the benefits of CBD for a full 24 hours with our transdermal patch formulation. These patches have been specifically designed to relieve inflammation and pain in localized areas, as well as provide full-body relaxation and anxiety relief.

    Studies

With the rebirth of interest in cannabis since legalization there has been a surge in studies done to uncover its potential benefits. These are some of the most interesting studies done on bone mass that prove CBD has the therapeutic potential to help weak bones.

    • 2009: International Immunopharmacology featured a study that uses CBD to treat periodontitis. This is a chronic infection of the gums which can lead to bone destruction of the teeth, gums, and jaw. They gave rats 5 milligrams of CBD and found that it reduced inflammation and bone loss in the animals.
    • 2015: An Israeli study that was conducted by Donald Abrams at the University of California shows that cannabis not only heals bones more quickly but also decreases the pain associated with the fracture.
    • 2015: One of the most popular studies done this year was conducted by DR. Yankel Gabet of the Bone Research Laboratory at Tel Aviv University. It studies the effect of cannabis on rats who have suffered from mid-femoral fractures. “It is likely that many patients suffering from bone fractures consume cannabis that may have beneficial or adverse effects on the healing process,” Gabet said.
    • 2017: Another study that was published in the European Journal of Pharmacology looks at spinal cord injuries in rats. When introduced to CBD, bone volume and thickness of the cone were both enhanced. The findings showed that the severity of the injury was reduced while simultaneously preventing further bone loss.
